Type Locality and Naming

Hexi corridor (Gansu-Qinghai). The naming section is located at Xiangshuihe in the Daha’erten River valley, Ulan County, in the western segment of the Qilian Mountains, Qinghai. Named by the First Regional Survey Party of Gansu in 1985.


Lithology and Thickness

In most areas mainly purplish red clastic rocks, composed of grayish white, brownish red and brownish yellow marlstone, mudstone, sandstone and conglomerate, the base of which is red sandstone and conglomerate. The thickness is up to 2600 m.

Lower contact

It overlies late Cenozoic strata with angular unconformity.
